Solicitors Regulation Authority

The SRA is an independent regulatory body created by the Law Society to regulate solicitors and law firms in England and Wales.

The SRA's activities cover a wide range but from a consumer point of view their most useful functions relate to guidance in finding a using a solicitor. They can advise on:

  • How to find a solicitor (see website links)
  • What to expect from a solicitor
  • How to get the best from your solicitor
  • Costs and legal aid
  • Legal jargon explained

The SRA will also advise on making complaints about poor service received by solicitors and law firms.

If a solicitor or law firm has closed down the SRA will advise you on what to do and how to claim money or documents owed to you.
