Housing Ombudsman Service

The Housing Ombudsman Service is set up by law to look at complaints about all housing associations and local housing authorities. Some managing agents and private landlords are also members of the Scheme. The HOS can only look into complaints about landlords who are members of its scheme. See site for details.

The service is free, independent and impartial.

The HOS will only consider your complaint when you have gone all the way through your landlord’s own complaints process. This enables the landlord to respond and try to put things right. HOS will provide information and advice that will help a tenant to use their landlord’s complaints procedure but the tenant must complete this process themselves.
