Free Representation Unit (FRU)

The Free Representation Unit (FRU) provides legal advice and advocacy for people who are unable to afford it.

The charity provides representation for:

  • Employment tribunals (and the Employment Appeal Tribunal);
  • Benefit appeals in the first-tier tribunal (and Upper Tribunal);
  • Criminal injury compensation cases in the first-tier tribunal (and Upper Tribunal).

FRU can only assist if:

  • You have a hearing date at a tribunal in London and the South East (or Nottingham);
  • Your case is referred to us by one of our referral agencies.

FRU cannot take referrals directly from a member of the public except in limited circumstances related to employment cases. See website for further information.

FRU publishes a list of some of its referral agencies on its site or you can ask your local advice agency if they make referrals.
